Statement 1 “Research Methods Can Be Godly”

Research can provide us with information on how to make better decisions in life and it can help us make better judgment calls when dealing with life issues. God wants us to obtain knowledge and wisdom in life. Qualitative research can be described as the collection of in-depth non-numerical data to hopefully change the outcome of a hypothesis (Crawford, 2019, p. 70). When using this research method, we can take a situation with a bad and ungodly outcome and use this method to try and change the outcome to make it godly. The more knowledge we obtain on how to change a bad outcome will allow us gain knowledge on how to live a godlier life and prevent having those outcomes that are not godly. Quantitative research can be described as research that gathers numbers and statics to gather a conclusion on the research topic (Crawford, 2019, p.70).  We can use quantitative research to measure the growth or decline of religious movements in our society today.  Gathering information on religious movements allows to gain knowledge on how we need to approach society as Christians. If the information we collect shows that there is a decline in religious movements in society, then we know that we need to strive to reach society for God more than we are at that moment. God gives us wisdom to make better life decisions. Psalms 32:8 states “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you” (ESV). This scripture shows us that it is very important to research and gather information for understanding life to gather information on how to save and reach lives for God. Research made it possible for us to come out with a Covid vaccine that helps save life’s today.

Statement 2 “Research Methods Can Be Ungodly”

Research can be ungodly. Proverbs 25:2 states “It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out” (ESV).  God allows us the knowledge to understand the things in life that He wants us to understand. When doing research, we try to dog deep into unknown subjects. These subjects can be things that God doesn’t want to reveal to us just yet, but we do research anyway to find out the outcome or discover something new. Natural observation can be described as the observation of people or an animal in their natural habitat (Crawford, 2019, p.76). When using this research method, we may discover a new species of animals that God doesn’t want us to encounter yet. You never know what you may come across when you are studying a specific group of animals for a long period of time. When using this method, we dig for information and may discover things that God is not ready for us to learn yet. This can lead to a misunderstanding about the new concept. God gives us knowledge when He believes we are ready. Research can cause a conflict in our ability to grasp new knowledge is discovered too soon.
